NOVA FCT announced the winners of the first edition of the Pedagogical Innovation Projects, an initiative that supports innovative, more interactive, and student-centered teaching practices.
Among the seven projects recognized for the 2025/2026 Pedagogical Innovation Award, TEACHSIGMA, by professor and researcher André M. Carvalho, stands out.
The project aims to transform the teaching of the Six Sigma course unit in the Master's in Industrial Engineering and Management through the Project-Led Education (PLE) approach. Instead of primarily theoretical classes, students will work on real-world projects, following the DMAIC cycle, in a Quality Engineering laboratory reconfigured as a collaborative room.
Using visual management tools that simulate industrial environments, students will have a progressive learning experience—from theory to laboratory practice, and then contact with data provided by partner companies. The initiative promotes essential technical and transversal skills in contexts of continuous improvement and is part of the revitalization of the Quality Laboratory, uniting teaching and research.
