Founded in 1999, DEMI has been located in Building VIII of the Caparica Campus since then and has trained more than three thousand students in various programs. Research is a fundamental part of DEMI, with the UNIDEMI research center receiving the highest rating from the Foundation for Science and Technology in 2019 and maintaining this rating to this day.
Telmo Santos, current President of DEMI, highlighted the department's significant impact on society through student education, research, technological development, knowledge dissemination, and partnerships with industry and companies.
"Remarkable things have been achieved, considering the starting point, and therefore, these 25 years have undoubtedly been worthwhile!" remarked the current President of DEMI.
The celebratory event included a roundtable discussion with current and former DEMI presidents, allowing the community to learn about their experiences and contributions to the department's development, as well as express their hopes and recommendations for the future.
