Jorge Miguel Marcelino Ruivo, a student in the Industrial Engineering Doctoral Program at NOVA FCT, was awarded the Best Presentation Award at the 14th International Conference & Global Competition on Systematic Innovation (ICSI & GCSI), held October 13-15, 2023, in Guangdong, China.
The award-winning article, titled "Smart Naval Maintenance, Bridging the Gap”, was presented by the student and proposes opening lines of research for the development of a systematic methodology, aiming to achieve intelligent maintenance for warships. This work integrates several elements, including maintenance, Industry 4.0, Lean, and TRIZ. "ICSI is a reference in innovative methodologies in various fields of science. The opportunity to present the work already developed constitutes an important validation milestone and a huge incentive to continue the research and development of the thesis. It is also a unique pleasure to represent the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI), NOVA FCT, and the Navy before other institutions and audiences of recognized merit," stated Jorge Miguel Marcelino Ruivo.
The winning paper is the result of research for the doctoral thesis, under the supervision of Helena Navas, professor at DEMI at NOVA FCT, and the co-supervision of Suzana Lampreia, professor at the Naval School and the Portuguese Navy.
