PhD CATAPULT District Regeneration - Decarbonizing Supply Chains

12-07-2019

It is organized by CENSE/Department of Environmental Science and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at FCT NOVA, as well as the University of Bologna, within the CLIMATE KIC program. The goal is for the 20 participants to develop concrete proposals for the case studies (one in Bologna and the other in Almada), focusing on the following question:
How can cities combine green spaces and urban regeneration actions with the decarbonization of their supply chains?

We received nearly 100 applicants from 32 countries for our 20 spots. We accepted 20 participants of 14 nationalities, including seven EU countries and Brazil, India, Mexico, Russia, Thailand, the USA, and Venezuela. The participants have a very strong and diverse profile in the areas of architecture and urban planning, supply chains, and energy planning. We believe this will be an excellent opportunity for Bologna and Almada to develop innovative and multidisciplinary solutions for the two case studies. For example, we have participants working for ICLEI and UN-HABITAT, as well as advanced doctoral students.

Participants will work with both municipalities and supply chain companies and will have direct contact with several local stakeholders in each city. In the second week, several entities will be enrolled in the program: the Almada Municipal Secretariat for Climate and Sustainability, AGENEAL, Refood, Auchan Retail, FuelSave, and the University of Aveiro.

On Friday, July 19, between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, the five teams will present their solutions in 15-minute presentations. We invite you to participate in this session.
