Mechanical Engineering undergraduate students developed a project for an atmospheric water reservoir as part of the Product Development Project course

25-06-2025

As part of the Product Development Project course in the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program, students are developing an atmospheric water reservoir, an initiative that includes teamwork, knowledge integration, and practical application of acquired skills.

The course involves nine professors from the four departments of DEMI's Mechanical Engineering Section—Structural Mechanics (NME), Fluid Mechanics and Applied Thermodynamics (NMFTA), Machine Design (NPM), and Industrial Technology (NTI). It is organized into four phases: conceptual development, design definition, construction and testing, and, finally, experimental testing with performance evaluation. Last year, students conceived, designed, built, and executed four projects: a Stirling engine; an airship; a wind turbine; and a load-bearing and electrical decoupling device.

Activity developed in the previous school year

This year, the first phase culminated on May 21st with the presentation of calculations, functional diagrams, and CAD drawings of the final design, along with the materials to be used and the planned manufacturing methods.

The course has a strong practical component and culminates in a team competition—to be held in June—where the performance of the constructed solutions is tested and will form the basis of this course's evaluation.

Information regarding the final phase of the project, including details related to its implementation, will be shared soon.
