Professor Telmo G. Santos, a DEMI professor and UNIDEMI researcher, was Principal Investigator of an R&D&I project dedicated to developing an innovative technique for identifying microdefects in various materials. This solution could directly impact the inspection of high-value components, such as optical components, orthodontics, and microfabrication. The research is based on the use of bacterial cells as a means of detecting defects and was recently featured in SIC's Grande Reportagem (Grade Report) entitled "Microbes: The New Workers in the Factories of the Future." The report emphasizes the fundamental role of scientific research in creating innovative solutions to real industrial challenges.
