International Day of Women and Girls in Science

11-02-2025

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated today, February 11th, highlights the importance of female participation in research and innovation. At NOVA FCT, we have 78 researchers who actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge in various fields. For many years, women have faced great challenges to gain a foothold in science, paving the way for more women to pursue this vocation today. DEMI is proud to be part of this effort, fostering a welcoming environment and encouraging more and more women to pursue scientific and technological careers. Together, we build a more equitable future full of opportunities in science.

Professor Ana Teresa Gabriel is the youngest professor and researcher at UNIDEMI – the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Research and Development Unit – at NOVA FCT. Her days are divided between the passion of teaching and research and the challenge of being a mother and a woman.

On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Ana Teresa Gabriel spoke to SIC Notícias to understand the constraints they (still) face and the fundamental role they play in the field of engineering.
