Diploma of Senior Technician in Occupational Safety and Health Postgraduate Studies

The Postgraduate Programme on Occupational Safety and Health Senior Technician, started in 2002/03, was created within the Ergonomics Section of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and provides the Diploma of Senior Technician in Occupational Safety and Health Postgraduate Studies.

Access Conditions for the academic year 2008/2009.

The main goal of the post-graduation programme on Occupational Health and Safety Senior Technician (TSSHT) is the certification of qualified safety professionals, in compliance with the legal requirements established in D.L. nº 110/2000 of 30 June.

The certification of qualified Occupational Health and Safety Senior Technicians aims at assuring that these professionals have the appropriate skills and competences to carry out their duties. The certification process has two main purposes:

• To assure, in the workplace, the development and implementation of adequate services and provisions concerning the prevention of occupational risks and the protection of workers against those risks. In the current context of fast technological change, this should also promote the improvement of working conditions and enhance economic competitiveness.
• To answer the European Union’s requirements concerning the mobility and free circulation of professionals in the area of Safety, Hygiene and Health at Work.

The course is approved by the ACT (“Authority for Working Conditions”).
