Master in Welding Engineering

The Master program in Welding Engineering is coordinated by DEMI in partnership with Materials Science Department and Welding and Quality Institute (ISQ) after a protocol celebrated between FCTUNL and ISQ.

The aim of the Master in Welding Engineering is to provide masters with skills to: design, coordinate and implement projects, suggest competitive technical and economical solutions, decide with critical thinking, manage and control welding processes and develop scientific research activities in the field of welding.

In their professional activities and using their skills to integrate knowledge and deal with complex innovative situations, Masters in Welding Engineering should be capable of acting at different levels from design and innovation to implementation, as well as coordination of engineering Works.

The program is developed in 4 semesters, in a total of 120 ECTS and is structured in two parts: a curricular one and a dissertation on a thematic covered by the course curricula. The first part follows the guidelines provided by the European Welding Federation (EWF) and the International Institute of Welding (IIW) for education of European Welding Engineers and ISQ is the Authorized National Body (ANB) in Portugal.

So the course is structured according IAB – 252-07 – IIW Guideline – Personnel with responsibilities for welding coordination – minimum requirements for the education, examination and qualification for Welding Engineers.

At the end of the curricular part of the course students are granted a Post Graduation diploma by FCTUNL and an EWE diploma granted by ISQ for professional purposes.

The program of Master in Welding Engineering is registered in the corresponding National Ministry with reference R/B-Cr 24/2009.
