The Core of Structural Mechanics provides teaching to students of various levels of education of the FCT / UNL and conducts research in the fields of Structural Dynamics, Modal Analysis, Structural Optimization, Structural Reliability and Biomechanics. The Core is responsible for the teaching of disciplines covering the traditional subjects of static and dynamics of particles and rigid bodies, theories of elasticity and plasticity, materials resistance and mechanical vibrations. Also teaches courses on the use of numerical methods and experimental methods in engineering. Associated with the Core is the Laboratory of Structural Mechanics whose aim is to provide the practical component of the subjects taught and to support the research with experimental and numerical models.
