Professor Duarte Dinis Undertakes International Mobility at the University of Bergamo

01-04-2026

Duarte Dinis, professor at DEMI and researcher at UNIDEMI, undertook an international mobility program at the Università degli Studi di Bergamo (UNIBG), Italy, under the FCT Mobility funding promoted by FCT.IP.

The stay lasted for two months, from January to February 2026, with the host institution being the Department of Management, Information and Production Engineering (DIGIP). Activities were carried out within the CELS research unit, located at the Engineering Campus in Dalmine, Bergamo.

During this period, Professor Duarte Dinis worked closely with researchers Professor Roberto Sala and Professor Fabiana Pirola, strengthening academic and scientific ties between NOVA FCT and the Italian university.

The main objective of the mobility was to consolidate cooperation between the two institutions, with emphasis on several strategic initiatives. These include the creation of an Erasmus agreement, aimed at facilitating mobility for students, researchers, and faculty, as well as promoting joint participation in national and European research projects.

Another key focus of this collaboration was the development of new research lines, particularly in the application of Machine Learning techniques to maintenance management — an area of growing industrial and technological relevance.

This initiative represents another solid step in the internationalization of research conducted at NOVA FCT and UNIDEMI.
