The Habilitation Exams in Mechanical Engineering for Professor Rui Fernando Martins, Associate Professor at DEMI, NOVA FCT, took place on 23 February 2026.
The jury was chaired by Professor José Paulo Santos, President of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon, and also included:
Dr. Amílcar Lopes Ramalho, Full Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra;
Dr. Virgínia Nabais Infante, Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon;
Dr. Abílio Pinho de Jesus, Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto;
Dr. Manuel Moreira de Freitas, Full Professor and Rector at Atlântica – University Institute;
Dr. Virgílio Cruz Machado, Full Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon;
Dr. Telmo G. dos Santos, Full Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon.
The examinations focused on the evaluation of the candidate's curriculum vitae, covering the pedagogical, scientific, university extension, and academic management aspects, as well as the evaluation of the presentation of the Computer-Aided Design Course Unit and the presentation of the seminar entitled ‘Analysis and Prevention of Failures in Mechanical Equipment: Methodology and Case Studies’.
The jury unanimously awarded Professor Rui Fernando Martins the academic title of Associate Professor with Habilitation.
